The CCBE held its Plenary Session meeting in Ljubljana on 29 May 2026, bringing together member delegations to discuss key issues affecting lawyers across Europe.
The discussions covered a large range of topics, including consultations on Human Rights, the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, CCBE Position Paper on the ‘EU Inc.’ 28th Regime, as well as a CCBE Guide for Bars, Law Societies, Law Firms and Lawyers on Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Climate Change.
The Plenary Session was enriched by the participation of high level speakers:
- Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia. The President highlighted that independent lawyers are one of the key safeguards of a democratic society and an important pillar of people’s trust in the justice system.
In particular, President Musar stated: “The Convention on the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer is also of paramount importance, as it represents a significant European response to the frequent and growing pressures, threats and infringements on the independence of lawyers. I am pleased that the Republic of Slovenia signed the Convention, and I hope that it will be ratified as soon as possible”. - Luka Gaberščik, Vice-President of the Slovenian Bar Association. He opened the Plenary Session with welcome remarks, underlining the importance of hosting such meetings in small countries like Slovenia.
- Dr Damjan Oroz, President of the Supreme Court of Slovenia. During his speech, he stressed concerns about the use of AI in law by young generations. He highlighted that the rule of law will be impacted if the legal education of young generations will be based on the use of AI.
- Dr Urška Kežmah, President of the Judicial Council of the Republic of Slovenia. Focusing on the importance of the independence of the Judicial Council from political influence, she put attention on recent changes to the disciplinary procedures in Slovenia, involving both lawyers and judges, with strict measures to improve transparency, consistency and legal certainty.
🏆During the Plenary Session, the CCBE celebrated the 2026 Amicus Curiae Contest Award Ceremony.
This year the award was given to Dominika Jon, trainee advocate at the Polish Bar Council.
